Beating Osteoarthritis Pain Naturally

Both osteoarthritis pain and rheumatoid arthritis pain are closely linked to inflammation. In fact, so close that one cannot live without the other. But just what is pain, and how do we treat it?

Pain, is the body's alarm signal. It warns us that there is something wrong in a specific area, and tells us to either ~ stay away from here, or please fix this ~ more than likely it's both.

Pain can come in two forms – acute and chronic.

  • Acute pain is generally very localised and is often due to an injury or an illness. Such things as a bee sting, sprained ankle or sore throat would be good examples of acute pain. It is often accompanied by localised swelling (inflammation) and when treated correctly will dissipate after a short period of time.
  • Osteoarthritis pain, and rheumatoid arthritis pain are more generally associated with chronic pain. This type of pain will last for weeks, months and even years, has no 'trigger' or injury associated with it (though these may develop later), is always accompanied by inflammation, and the sufferer will often have tried numerous medications in an attempt to alleviate the symptoms with no success.

Some medicos theorise there is a link with the gene MTHFR (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) and osteoarthritis pain which (amongst other things) breaks down homocystine levels.  When this gene is defective, it fails to break down homocystine, it also fails to break down folate vitamins correctly, and this can lead to a higher folate production resulting in coronary heart disease, rheumatiod arthritis and diabetes.

Because the MTHFR gene is not operating correctly (this occurs when there is a mutation in the gene, and it is passed by both parents) it fails to convert glutathione which leads to stress and toxin build up. It also fails to convert methionine this may raise your risk of arteriosclerosis, fatty liver degenerative disease, anemia, inflammation and increased SAM-e and increased free radical damage. Less SAM-e can lead to depression, which we now know is also inflammation gone wrong.

What we need to understand is that chronic pain such as osteoarthritis pain, it is a result of inflammation.

“Tolle Causum”  Treat The Cause of osteoarthritis pain:

It's time to take control of your life and your health. For too many years the western medical fraternity have told us that there is no cure for arthritis, but they conveniently forget to tell us that when given the correct foods that the human body is capable of regenerating itself. There are alternatives to pharmaceutical drugs.

Nopal cactus is one of those alternatives. The Pima Indians of the Sonoran Desert have been using the fruit for centuries. Nopal fruit is rich in betalains and antioxidants and has a proven track record in destroying inflammation. I myself can attest to the power of this unique and effective nutraceutical.

Here are some obvious things that you can do immediately to reduce your osteoarthritis pain and rheumatoid arthritis pain :~

  • Stop smoking – I probably don't need to go into any more detail. If your a smoker (I used to be) you've probably heard enough already. Ask your doctor for the easy way out. I used Champix, and it worked a treat for me.
  • Lose weight – Obesity is like arthritis – it creeps up slowly and is the leading cause of coronary heart disease. Not only will you extend your life but you will also reduce arthritis knee pain. Click here for some dietary tips.
  • Exercise – Try for 30 minutes a day of rapid exercise. Even if its only 3 10 minute bursts to start. Anything is better than nothing. Avoid high impact exercises like jogging, squash (racketball) and any contact sports.

Some alternative medicines may include fish oil capsules, rose hip, cats claw and glucosamine. These can be effective but, like doctors drugs, they still only treat the symptom and not the cause and DO NOT lower inflammation or C-reactive protein (a leading inflammation marker).

Here's The Tip: For thousands of years the native americans used the fruit of the nopal cactus in their diet as a health tonic to successfully ward of the horrific diseases we have just discussed.
